“Mom, what letter in the alphabet has two letters combined to make its name?” I paused for a moment and answered, “Double U.” My son smiled and said, “Correct!”
Today, as I reflect on that simple yet profound exchange, I find it beautifully fitting for International Women’s Day. The word Woman begins with “W”—and just like the letter double U, you are twice the strength, twice the grace, and twice the power in every space you enter.
It is double YOU that nurtures and raises God-fearing children.
It is double YOU that transforms a house into a home.
It is double YOU that uplifts and supports great men.
It is double YOU that sits at the table and demands to be heard.
But, dear woman, do not think you have to be the strong one who does it all alone. Ask for help, take help, and give help as often as you can. That is what truly maximizes your YOU power.
And as an extra blessing for today, let’s remember that the number five in the Hebrew alphabet represents grace. So, dear woman, give yourself grace.
Grace to know that you carry unmerited favor—favor that is second to none.
Grace to rise above inequality, knowing that favor will take you where injustice cannot.
Grace to speak up, to stand tall, and to know your worth.
So today, treat YOU and YOU. Celebrate the phenomenal woman that you are.
